Thursdays@Newhall Series Continues on April 2
The City of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru, continues in April with its second installment of the 2015 season. Main Street in Old Town Newhall will come to life each Thursday evening with a variety of events, including square dancing, trucks and off-roading vehicles, a Western-themed block party, an appearance by acclaimed director Jorge Gutierrez and performances by renowned musicians Kristyn Harris and Jim Jones.
From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on April 2, ArtSLAM and JAM Sessions, hosted by the Ford Theatre Foundation, will bring local art and rockin’ rhythm to Main Street. Residents can explore the free ArtSLAM open-air gallery featuring local and regional artists, while Susan Michaels and Triple Chicken Foot lead do-si-doers in swinging square dances for JAM Sessions.
From 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, the Revved Up car show cruises onto Main Street with trucks and off-roading vehicles, including pre-runners, trophy trucks, class 2 models, dune buggies, rock crawlers and sandrails. The event will also include a live DJ, food trucks and a beer and wine garden for adults. Cars will be voted in two categories: People’s Choice and Peer Choice. Cowboys and cowgirls can embrace their wild western sides on Thursday, April 16, when SENSES returns to Old Town Newhall with a Country Throwdown block party from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. In anticipation of the 22nd Annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, Main Street will feature live country music, line dancing, horse shoes, trick roping and gourmet food trucks.
The ARTree Speaker Series, presented in partnership with the CalArts Community Arts Partnership and the City of Santa Clarita, will finish out the April lineup of Thursdays@Newhall events from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The event will feature Cal Arts graduate Jorge Gutierrez, director of the animated feature film “The Book of Life.” The evening will include a free screening of the film, after which Gutierrez will speak about his life in Mexico, the motivation that led him to Cal Arts and his drive to deliver inspirational messages about life. The event will be held at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street.
As part of the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, SCVTV presents the OutWest Concert Series will be held on Wednesday, April 15 with the 2015 Western Music Association’s Female and Male Performers of the Year: Kristyn Harris and Jim Jones. The western music event starts at 8:00 p.m. at the Repertory East Playhouse, located at 24266 Main Street. Tickets can be purchased here.
