Delegation from Japan to Meet With City Leaders
Visit Scheduled for October 25-26 to Discuss Potential Collaboration Opportunities
A delegation from the City of Matsudo, Japan, will visit Santa Clarita today and tomorrow to discuss potential collaboration in mutual areas of interest, including education and business. The group will also explore the possible formation of a “sister school” or “sister city” relationship.
The City of Matsudo is a relatively large, residential suburb of Tokyo and is a regional commercial center. The city is located in the Chiba Prefecture, approximately 12 miles from central Tokyo.
The delegation will meet with staff from the City of Santa Clarita today and visit City Hall, Central Park and Old Town Newhall. Tomorrow, the group will visit West Ranch High School and meet with former Mayor Carl Boyer, as well as representatives from the Santa Clarita Valley International Program and Sister Cities (SCVIP) at College of the Canyons (COC).
Following the meeting, COC Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook and Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Striplin will present to the delegation. A discussion on education will then take place with representatives from William S. Hart Union High School District, COC and other Santa Clarita educators.
The visit is coordinated by SCVIP, a local non-profit organization focused on promoting and developing mutually beneficial strategic alliances and international goodwill between Santa Clarita residents and international cities through “Local to Global” projects, programs and partnerships.
