City to Present Agenda Item to Transition Library Services In-House at January 9 Council Meeting
At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, City staff will present the City Council with an agenda item to transition Santa Clarita Public Library services - currently under contract with a private vendor, Library Systems & Services, LLC (LSSI) – to an in-house City-managed service.
The City of Santa Clarita assumed responsibility for public library services in July 2011 with the goal of improving services for the Santa Clarita community. Since this transition, library hours and the annual budget for books and materials were increased, and the Old Town Newhall Library was opened on Main Street.
The City of Santa Clarita has succeeded in improving public library services, and continues to do so by proposing to transition library services in-house. Compared to the current contracted structure, the City will provide a higher staffing level and a competitive pay and benefits structure to attract and retain talented public library professionals to provide Santa Clarita residents with high-quality public library services.
The January 9 City Council meeting is open to the public and will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
