Beginning January 1, 2006 residents and businesses of Santa Clarita who wish to use a temporary waste bin or roll off box service in the City must choose between one of the companies awarded a franchise agreement by the Santa Clarita City Council.
Waste haulers who submitted proposals and met City stipulations to provide temporary bin and roll off box services were awarded franchises by the City Council at the November 8, 2005, Council Meeting.
This new program will help City staff track recycling data and waste materials generated in the City; primarily those from construction and demolition projects.
Better tracking allows the City to identify waste generated within?City limits and increase its rate of waste diversion. In addition to regular reporting, the franchised haulers will have to maintain minimum levels of insurance and will be required to keep their bins graffiti free and properly labeled.
“By franchising waste haulers, the City can better monitor the amount of trash being generated and can help ensure a high level of customer service,” said Assistant City Manager Ken Striplin. "Residents and businesses will also still have the freedom to choose from a wide variety of haulers to meet their needs.”
