Dennis moved to the Santa Clarita Valley with his wife Sue and their two daughters in the late 1970s. He was soon working with residents to provide a technical basis that supported resisting the location of a hazardous waste dump over the Santa Clara River in Canyon Country. Later he provided similar input to resist the Elsmere Canyon Dump. Dennis spent 25 years with Southern California Edison as their specialist in earthquakes. During that time he earned a doctorate from the School of Engineering at UCLA.

In the 1980s, while serving as President of the Sand Canyon HOA, he forged the basis of an equestrian community, via Special Standards, for that area. “I moved here in the late 70s because it was a great area to live and raise children, it continues to be that way today, and my primary reason for being on the Planning Commission is to do what I can to keep it that way.”

Tim lives in Newhall with his wife Debbie, and their two daughters Sarah and Stephanie. He enjoys working on the Planning Commission because of the opportunity to add the perspective and vision of the community to proposed projects and developments. He believes that the Planning Commission can, and does make important contributions to the development process, resulting in projects that the benefit the entire community.

Diane Trautman, Commissioner

Diane and her husband Allan met as students at CalArts in 1977. They moved back to Santa Clarita with their two sons in 1993. Since that time, Diane has worked on a wide range of issues of vital importance to the city including campaigning to preserve open space, the preservation of Elsmere Canyon, the defeat of the Las Lomas development in the Newhall Pass, and the ongoing effort to stop the Cemex mining project in the eastern portion of the Valley. Diane has also served as a leader at various levels of the PTA. In 2003, she and her husband founded a local business, StudyPros In-Home Tutoring.

Diane first served on the Planning Commission from 2002-2010 and is honored to once again bring her knowledge, skills, and perspective to the important task of guiding city development. Diane served as the liaison from the Planning Commission to the City’s Arts Advisory Committee, and her work with that committee was instrumental in the creation of the current Arts Commission.

“I will continue to work to ensure responsible development and to voice the concerns of citizens on issues affecting our health and quality of life in the Santa Clarita Valley. I invite public input and look forward to working with everyone to maintain and enhance the value of our community.

Lisa Eichman joined the Planning Commission in October 2010. She, her husband Craig and daughter Shelby have been residents of Valencia since 1986. They moved to Valencia in order to raise their daughter in a family-oriented community with quality schools. She is co-owner and founding partner of Eichman & Eichman, Tax and Accounting and also owns Gymnastics Unlimited, Santa Clarita’s oldest and largest gymnastics school with her husband. Lisa is an Enrolled Agent and a Licensed Financial Advisor. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: All Valley Le Tip (current President), Gymnastics Unlimited Foundation (CFO), Foundation for US Historical Monuments (Treasurer and Founding Board Member). She is also the Head Coach of the Santa Clarita Special Olympics Rhythmic gymnastics team.

Charles Heffernan,  Commissioner

Chuck lives in Valencia with his wife Wendy and sons Kyle, Scott and Jake who are attending universities in California and Arizona. A resident of the Santa Clarita Valley since 1986, he has seen the beneficial effects of local governance and planning for the citizens of Santa Clarita. Chuck and Wendy attended many of the early Cityhood meetings. Chuck has been the President of the Northpark Homeowners Association for the past 4 years.

As a resident of Saugus from 1987-1997, Chuck’s first SCV community activism was in lobbying the City for the Wiley Canyon Road Bridge, which now provides secondary access to the Circle J Ranch Community. Chuck looks forward to contributing to the Planning Commission’s duty to continue the City’s commitment to high quality planning proposals that will enhance quality of life for its citizens. Chuck is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hiking and climbing locally, in the Sierras, and abroad. After joining the Planning Commission in April 2012, Chuck was recently reappointed in August.
