Share the World is a program offering performances and workshops by CalArts music and dance ensembles to elementary, junior high and high schools in Santa Clarita Valley. The City of Santa Clarita provides matching funds to support music and dance performances for students attending Santa Clarita public schools. The Share the World program is a collaboration between the City of Santa Clarita – Arts and Events Office, the California Institute of the Arts - Community Arts Partnership (CAP) and the six Santa Clarita Valley school districts (Acton/Agua Dulce, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Sulphur Springs, and William S. Hart). The combined effort of the City and Santa Clarita Valley schools have created an opportunity to promote cultural diversity and bridge gaps in world-wide artistic exposure through performances and workshops in music, dance, theater, visual, and literary arts. Share the World offers performances in jazz, blues, Latin jazz, Afro-Cuban music, Balinese Gamelan, Reggae, Indian music, and African music and dance, among others. These performances and workshops address the State mandated Visual and Performing Arts Standards as well as introduce students to a variety of diverse cultural traditions. Since 2001, the program has provided hundreds of assemblies and workshops impacting tens of thousands of elementary school students across the Santa Clarita Valley. Through Share the World, unique arts education opportunities are offered at one-half the normal cost to Santa Clarita schools.
Currently the City of Santa Clarita matches 50% of the cost for each eligible school to bring this exciting program to students. Ensembles are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. For booking information please contact Donna Avila, City of Santa Clarita, (661) 286-4145.
