The Department of Neighborhood Services provides a variety of services essential to maintaining a high quality of life for the City of Santa Clarita. These services are provided through the following divisions: Environmental Services, Parks, Public Library, Special Districts, and Transit.
Darren Hernández, Deputy City Manager, leads the Department of Neighborhood Services. Darren joined the City of Santa Clarita in January 2004 as Director of Administrative Services and was named Deputy City Manager in July 2007. Among the projects Darren has coordinated for Santa Clarita are: creation of the Open Space Preservation District, creation of the Santa Clarita Public Library, expansion of the Landscape Maintenance District, and achievement of a AAA credit rating by Standard and Poors. Active in several professional organizations, Darren has served as President of the League of California Cities Fiscal Officers Department and as a member of the League’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining Santa Clarita, Darren served as Director of Finance for the City of La Habra, California; Village Manager for the Village of Walden, New York; Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Executive Assistant to the Controller of the State of New York.
