Purpose
To provide a funding source for the operation and maintenance of various equipment and fixtures, such as pump stations, observation wells, hydraugers, and drainage swales, which remove surface water and/or drain excess groundwater in order to maintain slope stability within a specific area.

The City has six Drainage Benefit Assessment Areas (DBAA’s), all located in the Canyon Country area.  Homeowners within a DBAA are assessed for the special and unique benefit they receive.  The assessment is on the property tax bill, collected by the Los Angeles County Tax Collector on annual property tax bills and redistributed to the City of Santa Clarita to fund the DBAA’s.

The City has several contractors to monitor the observation wells, maintain and repair the pump station equipment and fixtures, and monitor the geological aspects to ensure slope stability is maintained.
