Tim Burkhart, Commissioner
Director of Park Operations, Maintenance and Construction
Term Expires: July 2010

Tim lives in Newhall with his wife Debbie, and their two daughters Sarah and Stephanie. He enjoys working on the Planning Commission because of the opportunity to add the perspective and vision of the community to proposed projects and developments. He believes that the Planning Commission can, and does make important contributions to the development process, resulting in projects that the benefit the entire community.

 

Dr. Dennis Ostrom, Commissioner
Earthquake Risk Consultant
Term Expires: July 2010

Resident of Santa Clarita since the late 70's, Dennis Ostrom has seen many changes take place. Dennis is married, and a father of two daughters. Dennis is still living in a community where he very much wants to raise his family. "Only good planning will allow Santa Clarita to continue to be the area in which I will wish to remain for a long time to come."

 

Diane Trautman, Commissioner
Term Expires: July 2010

Diane and her husband Allan, an actor/puppeteer, first lived in the
Santa Clarita Valley as students at the California Institute of the Arts in the late 1970s. They returned to Santa Clarita in 1993 to raise their two sons who are currently attending school in the Hart High School District. Diane is a former Personnel and Benefits Administrator, and has been active as an advocate for education and environmental issues and as a participant in city planning forums. "The planning commission plays an important role in preserving our valley and promoting a sustainable and vibrant city through decisions that balance the needs of all interests, including the business community, residents, schools, and the natural environment. I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to share in this process."

 

Bill Kennedy, Vice-Chair
Vice-President, Worldwide Sales of Gruber Systems
Term Expires: July 2008

Bill is Vice President, Worldwide Sales, of Gruber Systems, Inc., a manufacturing company based in Valencia; President–elect of the Valley Industrial Association of Santa Clarita; and member of the College of the Canyons Foundation Board. A retired USAF colonel, he has forty years of leadership, planning, and business experience. He and his wife Cathy adopted Santa Clarita as their home in 2001, attracted, as he says, “by the many positives here: a well planned community of creative, caring, devoted people enjoying a high quality of life. My hope is to help the Planning Commission preserve those qualities as the community grows into its next stage of development.” His education includes a Bachelor of Science (United States Air Force Academy), Master of Political Science (Auburn University), M.B.A. studies (University of Utah), advanced studies in military science (Air Command & Staff College, and National Defense University), and post-graduate studies in Economics and World Affairs (National Defense College of Canada). In his spare time, he serves as Executive Director and past President of the Golden West Cultured Marble Association, a regional arm of the International Cast Polymer Alliance representing the eight western U. S. states and four western provinces of Canada, is Marketing Chairman of the ICPA, publishes InTouch, a quarterly trade newsletter serving the cast polymer industry, and enjoys exercising his private pilot privileges with his wife Cathy, especially when the destination is Fort Collins, Colorado to visit their grandson, Dylan.
