UU of SCV collects for Santa Clara River
Date(s): 6/15/2008
Time(s): 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Details: Barbara Wampole from Friends of the Santa Clara River will address the local Unitarian Universalist congregation at Sunday morning services on June 15, to speak briefly about the organization’s dedication to the protection, enhancement and management of the Santa Clara River. Church members will then take up a collection to support the efforts of this environmental group. One of two natural river systems remaining in Southern California, the Santa Clara was added in 2005 to a national list of most endangered rivers (www.americanrivers.org). A major habitat restoration project is currently underway at the Hedrick Ranch Nature Area. The project involves the planting of riparian vegetation on areas once used for grazing, and for the removal of exotic plants. Each month, the Unitarian Universalists of Santa Clarita Valley take up a “Third Sunday” collection for a local charity. The church has provided close to $5,000 to nonprofit organizations through this monthly collection over the past two years. Church services are held each Sunday, 10:30 AM, at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall. For directions and further information, visit www.UUofSCV.org or call 661-254-7866. This congregation offers a spiritual home for religious free thinkers, drawing upon the teachings of many of the world’s faiths to help individuals build their own theology.
