MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP
June 2004
Dear Residents:
Here it is, already June and half the year is gone. This is a special June for me
because my eldest daughter, Karina, will be graduating high school. It seems like
yesterday that she was walking to Valencia Valley school and here she is, ready to
don her graduation cap and accept her diploma at Valencia High School. To all of
you who also have graduating sons, daughters, grandchildren, cousins, nieces,
nephews and friends, a hearty congratulations on this incredible milestone!
The summer months are a busy time for us at city hall, especially in the parks and
recreation department. We offer a wide variety of summer fun, including swim
lessons, free swim, lap swim and more in our city pools located at various parks
and of course at our state-of-the-art Aquatic Center. Also in the summer, we offer
the popular “concerts in the parks” program at Central Park. From July through
August, you can enjoy a free concert in the comfort of beautiful Central Park,
every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. I encourage you to make this a quality time for
you and your family. Don’t forget the picnic basket, chairs and blankets!
Last month, Mayor Kellar and I traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with our
Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon, the Director of the Federal Bureau of
Land Management, and the president of the Cemex Corporation, in an effort to
work on a viable “win-win” situation to resolve the Transit Mixed Concrete
mining proposal. We will continue to pursue our legal and legislative strategies,
to resolve this issue as expeditiously as possible.
Next month, we will host our annual “State of the City Luncheon” on July 7,
2004 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Hotel. This luncheon provides an overview of
what we’ve accomplished over the last year, as well as a look at what the
upcoming year will bring. Presentations from the City Council, a delicious
luncheon and even a special commemorative gift are provided. The cost is $25
per person and reservations are required, call 661/259-2489.
As always, feel free to email me your ideas, concerns and comments at
kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com
Sincerely,
Ken Pulskamp
City Manager
