MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP
November, 2003
In this the month of Thanksgiving, we in the Santa Clarita Valley truly
have much for which to be thankful. The recent fires that resulted in lost
homes and lives in California, burned nearly 100,000 acres in our region.
Residents of Stevenson Ranch (located adjacent to the City limits) were
asked to evacuate their homes, but amazingly, no loss of life, structure or
property occurred in the Santa Clarita Valley. We have the efforts of the
many fire departments that helped fight the blaze -- some coming from out
of state to help us. Through the diligent efforts of the California
Department of Forestry which managed the incident, the Los Angeles Fire
Department, as well as law enforcement provided by the Los Angeles
County Sheriffs and the California Highway Patrol, our community
suffered very little in comparison to other communities in the State. On
behalf of the Santa Clarita City Council and myself, I want to thank all of
those workers for their tireless efforts on behalf of our communities. Your
hard work is greatly appreciated!
I want to also share with you a few exciting things that have happened
recently. In October, we opened our new $9 million Aquatic Center at the
Sports Complex in Canyon Country. If you didn’t have a chance to join
us for the grand opening, be sure to stop by the Center, located at 20850
Centre Pointe Parkway and pick up a swim schedule for you and your
family. You will definitely want to check out this magnificent facility!
We are continuing to work towards developing franchise agreements for
residential and commercial trash services in the City. With the new
agreements, customers for both residential and commercial accounts can
expect more services for a lower monthly rate. If you are interested in
learning more, contact the City’s Environmental Services Division at
661/286-4066, or check us out on-line for meeting schedules at
www.santa-clarita.com.
I really appreciate your interest in our local government. It is your
continued involvement and communication that helps to make our City
one of the best in the State. As always, you can reach me at City Hall at
661/255-4905 or via email at kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com. Have a
wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Ken Pulskamp
City Manager
