Summer 2003
GREETINGS FROM THE CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP
I hope you are managing to catch a few cool breezes this summer…over at
City Hall, we’ve been breezing through a very busy time. Let me share
with you a few of the things that are happening right now.
The F.B.I. released their crime statistics for 2002. For cities with a
population of 150,000 or more, Santa Clarita ranked as the number one
safest city in the Country! This can be attributed to a variety of factors
including our great Sheriffs’ department, a community dedicated to
involvement and a proactive City Council and staff. Together, these add
up to a community that is committed to staying safe. Kudos to Captain
Patti Minutello and the Santa Clarita Sheriffs Department for their
enthusiasm and hard work
The City is currently negotiating with three trash companies to provide
residential and commercial trash and recycling pick up services in the
City. In September, the staff will provide the City Council with a
recommendation for city-wide trash services that reflects the needs of the
community and the City Council. The three companies include: Blue
Barrel/Santa Clarita Disposal, Consolidated/Atlas Disposal and Burtec
Industries.
On Saturday, October 18, at 10 a.m., we will host a special grand opening
celebration for our new Aquatics Center at the Sports Complex. This $9
million facility includes an Olympic sized pool, a 25-meter diving pool
and a family recreation pool, plus restrooms, showers, lockers, a
concession building, sun decks and more. Join us for a day of fun in the
pool! (more information on the grand opening event is available by
calling 661/255-4314).
I hope you and your family have had an opportunity to enjoy at least one
of our free Concerts in the Parks, held every Saturday night at 7 p.m.
during the summer at Central Park. We encourage you to pack a picnic
and enjoy a variety of musical styles. For a complete schedule, call 298-
ARTS. During August, you can also enjoy four Shakespeare
performances at Newhall Park on Saturdays at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the
Repertory Theatre and the City of Santa Clarita.

your interest in our City.
