MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP
June Broadcast Message
Hello from Santa Clarita City Hall!
I hope the warm weather is finding you and your family happy and healthy and
thinking about some relaxation plans for the summer!
On Wednesday, June 4, the City will host its fourth in a series of “Milk and
Cookies with the Mayor” town hall meetings at 7 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley
Senior Center on Market Street. Hosted by Mayor Cameron Smyth, the
meetings are designed to provide residents an opportunity to meet informally with
members of the City Council and city staff to discuss issues and ideas of interest.
All of the “Milk and Cookies with the Mayor” meetings are free and open to the
public, for more information, contact the Public Information Office at 661/255-
4314.
Reservations are available now for the annual State of the City Luncheon, to be
held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Hyatt Hotel and
Conference Center. The luncheon is hosted by the Santa Clarita City Council
and includes brief presentations designed to provide an overview of what is going
on in the City. The cost for lunch is $25/person and includes a special
commemorative gift. For more information or to RSVP, contact the City of
Santa Clarita at 661/259-2489. Space is limited.
If you and your family plan to be home this 4th of July, plan to attend the free
fireworks show at the Valencia Town Center. The City is working on a great
patriotic event, to include a real red, white and blue fireworks show. For more
information, including parking, log on to www.santa-clarita.com or call the City
at 661/255-4910. (And don’t forget the 4th of July parade which begins at 8 a.m.,
running north along San Fernando Road from 5th Street to Lyons Avenue, turning
west on Lyons and north onto Orchard Village Road, ending at 16th Street.
Our City Capital Projects are progressing well. The Aquatics Center is on
schedule and we’re looking at an October grand opening. This state of the art
facility includes three new pools, a concession building, locker and restroom
facilities on the City’s 58-acre Sports Complex site just off Golden Valley Road.
The new Transit Maintenance Facility, to be located on a 11.84 acre vacant
industrial lot in the Rye Canyon Business Park, within the Valencia Industrial
Center, at the southeasterly corner of Alta Vista Road and Constellation Road will
have an official ground breaking early this fall. Phase I of the project will include
construction of facilities to meet the needs of the Santa Clarita Transit System
over the next five to ten years. The first phase of construction will provide for
housing of all of the City’s transit fleet, with room for expansion to house up to
150 buses.
The new community center in downtown Newhall is currently in the design
phase, with construction expected to begin later this year. The new center will
include a dividable multi-purpose arena, classroom space, a physical fitness area,
a boxing area, a room for dance and karate, a dedicated teen area, a basketball
court, a Sheriffs’ substation and staff offices. The City is undertaking the design
and construction of this beautiful new facility at a cost of $3.8 million.
As always, feel free to email me at kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com if there is
something I can do for you.
Best Regards,
Ken Pulskamp
