MESSAGE FROM CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP
March 2003
It’s hard to believe we’re already three months into the year. Things have been very
busy here at City Hall. We recently celebrated the grand opening of Central Park,
Phase 2, adding four new playing fields to our crown jewel. Next month, we will
open Oak Spring Canyon Park, a new five-acre neighborhood park in
Canyon Country. Everyone is invited to the grand opening celebration on
Saturday, April 5, at 10:00 a.m.
March is a special time of year in Santa Clarita because it’s cowboy time! This year,
the City celebrates its 10th annual Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival, with the
best in cowboy entertainment. If you haven’t attended one of these festivals, I
encourage you to give it a try. General admission tickets are $10/person, which
provides you and your family with entrance to Melody Ranch, great live western
entertainment, the cowboy gear show, and authentic cowboy grub for sale. General
admission tickets are available now by calling the City at 661/255-4910. For more
information on this event, please visit our website at www.santa-clarita.com.
The City team continues to pursue its multi-pronged strategy for the cleanup and
reuse of the Whittaker-Bermite property. The City is coordinating closely with
Castaic Lake Water Agency elected officials and staff, Department of Toxic
Substance Control officials, Santa Clarita Valley legislators, and other Valley
stakeholders to ensure that all issues are covered as the project develops. The City
also continues to participate in the Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force and Citizen
Advisory Group (CAG) meetings.
Our community meeting program “Milk and Cookies with the Mayor” continues to
be very popular. In March, we’ve scheduled a special “teen meeting” to hear from
our youth. The teen meeting will be held on March 19, 3:30 p.m., at Sierra Vista
Junior High.
And, in case you haven’t heard, we have begun an extensive customer service
education and training program for our employees. It is our goal to make your
experience in dealing with the City a great one.
Please feel free to send me an email at kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com. I appreciate
your taking the time to read these monthly messages!
Best regards and happy trails,
Ken Pulskamp
