Message from the City Manager - September, 2002

MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER, KEN PULSKAMP

I continue to be amazed at the level of involvement and support by our community. The City put out the word recently that it would assist all community organizations in publicizing any and all commemorative events being done in remembrance of September 11. What follows is a listing to date of everything this community is planning. This is what makes Santa Clarita a great place to live. This community truly exemplifies what is great about our City.

Our Santa Clarita City Council has declared September 11 to be “Patriot Day.” This designation by the Council serves as the umbrella for all events being held on September 11. Please be sure to join your community in remembering and saluting our Country.

On September 11, we are inviting everyone to:

  • Wear red, white, and blue.
  • Step outside at 8:45 a.m. for a moment of silence.
  • Recite the pledge of allegiance at 8:47 a.m.
  • Fly the American flag at home and/or your business.
  • Participate in a Patriotic Candlelighting ceremony at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall to be preceded by the dedication of a “Liberty Garden” in front of City Hall. (Bring your own candle.)
  • Visit a place of worship at 12 noon.
  • Attend “Celebrating the American Spirit” on September 8, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lowe's. Sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley PTA Council and Lowe's. For up-to-date information, visit the City's Website at www.santaclarita. com. The City is seeking past and present military personnel to attend the “Patriotic Candlelighting” at City Hall to be recognized for their efforts.

Any local organizations that are planning events or commemorations are encouraged to attend a planning meeting at City Hall or notify the City so the event or commemoration may be included in citywide marketing and publicity efforts for Patriot Day, including a limited number of promotional posters. For more information, contact Pam Matsuoka at (661) 255-4956.

Thanks to all of you for your contribution and support for Santa Clarita Patriot Day. Our City is truly a better place to live because of YOU.
