It is my pleasure to provide a message to you each month from me that offers a quick overview of what the City is working on, as well as information on upcoming events. I hope that you find these messages useful.
This fiscal year, the City added two new patrol deputies to our contract to help improve responsiveness and aid in crime prevention efforts. Also as of July 1, we added a commercial vehicle enforcement deputy to help keep our local roadways safe from large and potentially unsafe commercial vehicles. For the latest information about what is happening with regard to our Sheriff’s Department, I encourage you to visit the regularly updated website, www.scvsheriff.com.
As the City embarks upon the new fiscal year, we continue our capital projects work program that represents millions of dollars in infrastructure for our City. If you’ve visited the City’s Sports Complex this summer, you’ve probably noticed the large equipment working on the 38 acres adjacent to the facility which is owned by the City. This expansion project will bring a new and larger skatepark to the Sports Complex, as well as a new gymnasium, a multi use field, more parking and landscaping. We are very excited about this $25 million project that will provide for the recreational needs of our community well into the future.
Transit is a hot topic right now, with gas prices climbing and concerns about the environment in the forefront. Our City plans to add three more commuter buses to our fleet this year, including a bus to the L.A. International Airport, connecting the “Fly Away.” I encourage you to check out the So Cal Transit Trip Planner, enabling you to plan your route through various stops in Southern California. Check this out on our Transit Website at www.santa-clarita.com/transit.
Next month, we will host our annual State of the City Luncheon on September 17 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Valencia. Mayor Bob Kellar and the Santa Clarita City Council will present the City’s top accomplishments from the last year, as well as provide a glimpse at exciting projects and programs planned for the future. Tickets are $30 per person and include a commemorative gift. For more information or to RSVP, call the City of Santa Clarita at 661-255-4939.
If you haven’t visited Central Park on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for our free Summer Concert in the park series, I encourage you to go! Every Saturday night this summer, you and your family can enjoy quality music in a comfortable, fun setting. This summer, we’ve got a great concert line up.
I want to personally thank you for your interest and participation in our great City. Please feel free to email me with any questions, thoughts or suggestions at: kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com
