MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
October 2004

Happy October!

Here it is, nearly the end of the year! Fall is upon us and October, particularly, promises to be a busy month! There are a few upcoming events that you might find worth your while:

This month is the , October 8-10, at the College of the Canyons Rockwell Canyon Road parking lot. This event is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to meet the community, and for our residents to learn about what local businesses have to offer. It’s also a great opportunity for business-to-business introductions. Gate entrance is free! Be sure to stop by the City’s booth, #202, and say hello!

Don’t miss the grand opening of the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center this month. This beautiful, state-of-the-art Center, scheduled to open October 15 , is a welcome addition to Santa Clarita, enabling our community to benefit from a professional and centrally-located facility. The City participated in the project by providing over $2 million in funding and is a partner in the project.

On October 17, the Child and Family Center, along with several local organizations including the City of Santa Clarita, will host the 2nd Annual Kids Expo at the new Golden Valley High School. Everything you’ve always wanted to know about activities, events, health and safety for children will be available at this very special event. For more information, contact the Center at (661) 255-6847.

A very special “Haunted Collection” called “Molar Manor” will commence Saturday and Sunday, October 23 and 24 with all proceeds benefiting three local charities, including the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health. Our hometown station, KHTS-AM 1220 will broadcast a live remote. Tickets are available for sale at local Burger King Restaurants and the number to call for more information is 661/259-6142.

Before the end of the year, the City will be breaking ground for a first-ever Veteran’s Historical Plaza and a new park in Valencia. As you probably know by now, construction has begun on the widening of the Bouquet Bridge and road near Newhall Ranch Road. The inconvenience now will be worth the wait when that road and bridge are expanded to eight lanes, so please - - - be patient!

Also, as temperatures start to drop and holiday preparations begin, I want to remind you that when you do your holiday shopping in the City of Santa Clarita, our community benefits with every dollar you spend. There are many shopping opportunities right here in our beautiful City (check them out at www.shopcityofsantaclarita.com). So please keep this in mind as you shop during the holiday season. As always, I welcome your thoughts, ideas and suggestions at kpulskamp@santa-clarita.com

Best regards,

Ken Pulskamp
