CITY/CEMEX EXTEND TRUCE

The City of Santa Clarita and the Cemex Corporation announced today their six-month extension of a one-year truce, allowing the parties to continue working cooperatively per the original “Principles for Cooperation.”

The signed document, originally entered into on January 8, 2007, was officially amended on December 7, 2007 and signed on December 19, 2007. The agreement calls for both parties to continue to work cooperatively to jointly develop solutions to their dispute regarding the location of a mining project in Soledad Canyon.

“I am pleased that the extension for the Principles for Cooperation has been extended. This will allow us time to finish what we’ve been working on for the last year with regard to a solution for this issue,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.

According to the newly signed document, “The adherence to the principles of this Agreement may be extended beyond June 30, 2008 upon mutual agreement of the City of Santa Clarita and CEMEX.”
