WORLD RECORDS BROKEN AT THE SANTA CLARITA AQUATIC CENTER

A staggering total of eight world records were recently broken when the Santa Clarita Masters Club and the Aquatic Center hosted a Long Course Meet, which is a meet where competitors swim the 50 Meter length versus the normal configuration of 25 yards.

During the meet four people broke eight different world records in events in their respective age groups in the Aquatic Center’s 50 Meter Pool. The world record breakers and the records that they broke are as follows:

Rita Simonton, age 90, broke the world record for the 1500 meter freestyle with the time of 36:28.48, beating out the previous world record of 42:30.27. Rita also broke world records for her splits of the 100, 200, 400, and 800 in the 1500 meter race.

Jurgen B. Schmidt, age 85, broke the world record for the 1500 meter freestyle with the time of 29:12.85, beating out the previous world record time of 29:35.88.

Erik Hochstein, age 40, broke the record for the 100 meter freestyle with the time of 53.29. The previous world record time was 53.45.

Dawn M. Heckman, age 31, broke the record for the 1500 meter freestyle with the time of 17:32.48, beating out the previous world record time of 17:38.70.

This swim meet, held on May 18th and was sanctioned by the United States Masters Swimming Association, making the meet official.
