CITY TO CONDUCT NIGHT WORK ON VALENCIA BOULEVARD AS PART OF OVERLAY AND SLURRY SEAL PROJECT

The City will conduct a night-time overlay project on the east-bound side of Valencia Boulevard from the I-5 freeway to McBean Parkway beginning Monday, August 24. The work, part of the City’s annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Project, will be conducted at night to avoid disrupting busy day-time traffic.

The Valencia Boulevard project is scheduled for completion on September 22nd. City staff began distributing letters to area residents two weeks ago to provide them with prior notice of the night work construction.

“In order to avoid creating congestion on Valencia Boulevard during busy day-time hours, the City resolved to conduct the street overlay project at night,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “Because the work will be noisy, City staff distributed notices to 14 days prior to the expected construction start date to prepare residents living adjacent to the project area.”

The City’s annual Overlay and Slurry Seal project provides for a smoother ride for traffic, enhances the appearance of roadways and surrounding area, and extends the life of local roadways. The project involves the annual evaluation and identification of local streets for their need for asphalt maintenance treatments. Construction as part of the 2008/09 Overlay and Slurry Seal project began in early July and is expected to continue through October.
