The City of Santa Clarita encourages local skaters to register for a spot in the upcoming Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks skate contest, which will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the City’s Skate Park. Pre-registration for the contest will open Wednesday, September 9 at volcom.com.
Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks is a free-entry skate contest designed to give back to amateur skaters, providing them with the chance to showcase their skills in a jam format. Skaters will be judged on the tricks they pull in three separate park “zones”. There will be a free BBQ lunch and absolutely no entry fees.
Skaters can register to compete in one of the three divisions: 14 and under, 15 and over and Pro-Am. The top 7 skaters from the 14 - and 15 + divisions will go home with loads of prizes while the Pro-Am division winners will receive prizes and cold hard cash. All 7 winners will receive invitations to the Wild in the Parks Championships in Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, Sept 26 and the chance at a $20,000 cash purse.
There are limited contest spots available. Be sure to come early to register to participate in the Santa Clarita Wild in the Parks skate contest. When registering, skaters must provide their age, address, e-mail and the division in which they would like to compete. Registration will also be available on the day of the event from 10-11 a.m., permitting additional spots are open. Under-18 skaters registering on the day of the contest must be registered by a parent or guardian.
Skaters who pre-register and register online are required to attend registration on the day of the event to complete Volcom’s registration process and the required City waiver. All participating skaters must wear a helmet and elbow and knee pads to be permitted to compete. Any skaters not in compliance with safety regulations will forfeit their spot in the competition.
“Santa Clarita is the only California stop for the Wild in the Parks contest and registrations are likely to fill up quickly. The City urges the local skate community to pre-register to help secure a spot in the competition held at the City’s Skate Park,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “Santa Clarita is the last qualifying stop for Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks skate contest, which has traveled across the United States. The winners of the Santa Clarita competition will move on to the Championships in Arizona, competing against the top skaters in the country for the winning title and $20,000 Grand Prize.”
The City of Santa Clarita Skate Park was chosen for the California stop for the Wild in the Parks contest due to its size, state-of-the-art design, and professional-level features.
