The City of Santa Clarita invites local skaters of all ages to come out and compete in Volcom Stone’s “Wild in the Parks” free-entry skate contest this Saturday, September 19 at the City’s Skate Park. Registration for the contest will be open at the City’s Skate Park from 10-11 a.m. on the day of the event.
Volcom’s Wild in the Parks skate contest designed to give back to amateur skaters and provide them with the chance to showcase their skills in a jam format. Skaters will be judged on the tricks they pull in three separate park “zones”. There will be a free BBQ lunch, free taco and drink coupons provided by Chipotle and absolutely no entry fees.
Local skaters can sign up to compete in one of three zones: 14 and under, 15 and over and Pro Am. The top 7 skaters overall will qualify for the “Wild in the Parks” Championship on September 26 in Phoenix, Arizona, and the chance at a $20,000 cash prize. Limited pre-registration is currently available at volcom.com for the 15 and over and Pro Am zones.
“The Santa Clarita Skate Park is the only California stop for Volcom’s ‘Wild in the Parks’ national skate tour and the last stop before the Championships in Phoenix, Arizona,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The City’s Skate Park, chosen by Volcom for the tour because of its national acclaim and professional level features, is the perfect location to host this exciting event. I encourage local skaters to come out and compete in the contest, or show support for the Santa Clarita skate community.”
Participants must arrive at the Skate Park between 10 and 11 a.m. on the day of the event to complete Volcom’s registration process and fill out a City waiver. All skaters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to sign up and all participants must bring a helmet, elbow and knee pads. Any skaters without the required safety gear will forfeit their spot in the competition.
To accommodate the Wild in the Parks contest, the 8-10 a.m. Junior Skate Time will not be held on the day of the event on September 19. The Skate Park will open for free skate when the competition and event clean-up is complete.
The City of Santa Clarita Skate Park was chosen for the California stop for the Wild in the Parks contest due to its size, state-of-the-art design, and professional-level features. Hailed as one of the premier skate destinations in Southern California, the 40,000 square foot Santa Clarita Skate Park features 10 and 11-foot bowls, a half-pipe, flow course, grind ledges, rails, skate-able planters, and more and was designed in part by Santa Clarita’s local skaters.
