The City of Santa Clarita and the Automobile Club of Southern California invite residents to attend the 2009 Teen Driving Safety Fair, in recognition of National Teen Driver Safety Week, on Saturday, October 17, 2009. The event, held at Central Park from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., will feature important information and resources for young drivers and parents, as well as free food from Carl’s Jr., courtesy of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
The 2009 Teen Driving Safety Fair will include numerous activities, presentations and resources to help keep local teen drivers safe on the road. The fair will feature custom car fits to show teens and parents safety belt, foot pedals, mirrors, and seat height adjustments to ensure that drivers fit properly into their vehicle before they drive. Interactive driving activities and games will also be offered, including a rock climbing wall that demonstrates a drop similar to a 20-mph car crash, under-the-hood maintenance demonstrations, and more.
“Automobile accidents are still the leading cause of death for young people,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The City’s Teen Driving Safety Fair seeks to heighten awareness of the dangers of irresponsible and reckless driving, and encourage community teens to educate themselves and practice safer habits behind the wheel to prevent unnecessary traffic collisions and tragedies.”
Various agencies and organizations, including the Auto Club Driving School, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Los Angeles County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Safe Rides, Department of Motor Vehicles, California Department of Insurance, Safe Moves, and more, will offer educational sessions for both parents and teens on teen driver topics such as California’s graduated driver licensing law, which has been updated and enhanced since it went into law 10 years ago, licensing requirements, teen crash risks, and more.
The 2009 Teen Driving Safety Fair is free for all community members to attend and is made possible by the City of Santa Clarita, the Automobile Club of Southern California, Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department and the Blue Ribbon Task Force.
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road. For more information on the 2009 Teen Driving Safety Fair, please contact the City’s Community Services Division at (661) 250-3708 or visit santa-clarita.com.
