Santa Clarita Valley seniors are encouraged to bring numerous materials for collection to the event, including loose needles and syringes, prescription and over-the-counter medication, veterinary medications, diagnostic agents and nutritional supplements. Consumer products such as fragrances, cosmetics and sunscreen will also be accepted for collection.

All pills submitted for collection at the event must be sealed in plastic baggies and bottles of liquids, such as topical creams, must be submitted in their original containers.

“The Sharps and Medical Waste Round-Up is one of the first events of its kind in Southern California,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The City is proud to continue its commitment to local seniors by partnering with Waste Management to host this important collection event.”

In addition to collecting needles and non-controlled pharmaceutical waste substances, the Sharps Medical Waste Round-Up will also feature presentations by Waste Management with information on the new Sharps Mail Back program. Sharps (needle) containers will also be distributed to assist seniors in utilizing the Mail Back program.

In addition to collection and informational presentations, the Sharps & Medical Waste Round-Up will also feature recycling workshops and additional information regarding the disposal of materials not accepted at the event.

Batteries, inhalers, household hazardous waste, electronic waste and DEA-controlled substances and illegal drugs such as barbiturates, and methamphetamines, will not be accepted for collection.
