The City of Santa Clarita will join other cities and counties in a state-wide event for the biggest bicycle commute in California, May 14th through 18th. Dozens of local businesses will join the City of Santa Clarita’s 4th Annual Bike to Work Day Challenge on Thursday, May 17th, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The Bike to Work Day Challenge is a friendly competition among Santa Clarita businesses in the area to see which employer can get the most employees to bike to work.
“By riding your bike to work, residents are helping reduce traffic and pollution, improving your health by increasing cardiovascular activity, and saving money on gas,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean. “With over 32 miles of trails, the City of Santa Clarita picturesque bike trails are designed for commuting and recreational use, including walking, riding, jogging, and skating; and are a great scenic route to work so give the bicycle commute a try and leave your cars at home this week,” she said.
The City has teamed up with Metro, L.A. County Bicycle Coalition & Newhall Bicycle to host public pit stops where cyclists can stop for refreshments, get energized, and receive giveaways and information on cycling. The pit stops are open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and are located at: City Hall in the lobby, located at 23920 Valencia Blvd, the City’s Corporate Yard, located at 25650 Rye Canyon Road; Trail Access at Newhall Avenue and 16th Street, hosted by Newhall Bicycle; and Trail Access at Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon, hosted by the L.A. County Bicycle Coalition.
