The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have partnered together to host the 24th Annual National Night Out, a unique crime/drug prevention event at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Tuesday August 7, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Local residents and families are invited to be a part of the National Night Out event, which will include face painting, popcorn and cotton candy, refreshments, giveaways, station tours, the Sheriffs posse, McGruff the crime dog, the City of Santa Clarita Park Mobile, L.A. County Fire Department, the local Neighborhood Watch groups, City Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) program information, and much more.
“The City of Santa Clarita is dedicated to keeping our streets safe and preventing crime and by participating in the National Night Out event, community members are sending a message about the importance of community safety,” commented City Mayor Marsha McLean.
On this night, all Santa Clarita residents are being encouraged to turn on their porch lights all night to “put a light on crime”.
National Night Out is designed to: heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back; and promote emergency preparedness for all hazards.
