WHITES CANYON BRIDGE SET TO REOPEN AT NOON
Santa Clarita Bridge Declared Safe by City and County Officials

After passing thorough inspections administered by structural engineers from both the City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County, the Whites Canyon Road bridge between Soledad Canyon Road and Via Princessa will reopen to the motoring public today at noon.

“The City of Santa Clarita would like to assure the public that the Whites Canyon Bridge is ready to reopen and safe for travel. The issues concerning the six-lane bridge were cosmetic, nothing structural. The bridge did what it was designed to do. It expanded at the expansion joints allowing for movement of the structure without causing any issues,” commented Damon Letz, City of Santa Clarita Engineer.

The Whites Canyon Road bridge, which was closed upon initial inspection by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department at approximately 2:00 a.m., sustained some cosmetic issues caused by the 4.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Thursday, August 9th at 12:58 a.m.

The City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County have continued inspection of every Santa Clarita bridge and overpass following the earthquake. No other issues or closures have been reported.

The Whites Canyon Bridge opened in the early to mid 90’s and is approximately 300 feet long.
