come to aid of kids in Ecuador
A team of 22 volunteers took a weeklong trip to Tena, Ecuador,
Santa Clarita's sister city. During this mission, they assisted
doctors in operations treating cleft lips and palates of children.

A Sister City
Community Forum was scheduled for September 2, 2004. This
forum featured keynote speaker Henry Cisneros who shared
his experiences with us and illuminated the many ways sister city
relationships can benefit a community. The forum invited
the public & community
leaders to learn about Sister Cities, and provided ideas about
the future direction of the Sister City Program.
First
Sister Cities Signing
A delegation from Santa Clarita made up of Ken Pulskamp, Chairman
of SCVIP, Carl Boyer, Vice President of SCVIP, and Elena Galvez,
Secretary of SCVIP, traveled from Santa Clarita to Tena in November
2001 to sign the agreement between Tena and Santa Clarita. On November
29, 2001 the first Sister City relationship for Santa Clarita was
official!

A delegation from Sariaya visited the City of Santa Clarita to sign
the Sister City Agreement to make our relationship with Sariaya official!
The Signing Ceremony was on April 11, 2003. The event included an
introduction of all the guests, the signing of the agreement, cultural
entertainment and food. The event was a great success. Please click

Young Artists
Competition
SCVIP held the first annual art competition open to all Santa Clarita
and Tena residents. The winner was then sent on to Washington for
international judging.

Delegation to visit Tena
A delegation is
planning to travel to Tena in October 2004, made up of members from
SCVIP, City officials and residents. People are encouraged to get
involved in the Sister City process
and to travel to Tena to see the city and experience all of the wonders
this region has to offer. Costs are minimal and depending on how
many people register, group rates will further reduce the price.

Medical Mission
The Santa Clarita Valley International Program (SCVIP) is currently working on a Medical Mission and travel opportunity to Santa Clarita’s SisterCity in Sariaya, Philippines. More information here.
Student Exchange Program
SCVIP is currently exploring the possibility of having students from
Tena, come to Santa Clarita to spend a year or two studying at College
of the Canyons. If you would be interested in hosting a student for
at least one semester in your home please email us at SCVIP@santa-clarita.com
