DADS (Dads & Moms Against Drugs)

Download Brochure

DADS is a voluntary, random drug-testing program initiated by Santa Clarita dads and moms. The program was conceived by a local 7th grader who needed an excuse to say “No” to friends who offer him drugs and alcohol. DADS was designed as a tool to deter drug use, and is one way to show parents’ commitment to their children’s health and safety. DADS is not meant to be punitive; rather, it is intended to give kids a convenient excuse and an out when they are pressured by their peers to try or use drugs and alcohol. (“No, my dad/mom might test me!”)

Drug-testing is free-of-charge, conducted by ACTION Parent-Teen Support Program and ACTION Family Counseling. Test results are completely confidential between the parent and kid, and are not turned over to school administrators or to law enforcement. Testing will give parents an opportunity for treatment and intervention, if needed.

A quarterly information meeting is held to educate and update parents and kids on new drug trends, signs and symptoms of drug use, prevention and intervention efforts, etc. For more information, or to join DADS, (link to form) please contact Tess Simgen, Community Services Analyst, at (661) 255-4956 or at tsimgen@santa-clarita.com.
