Dog Leash Ordinance

City of Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita Municipal Code Ordinance 8.32.010 requires all dogs be kept on a leash.
Santa Clarita Municipal Code:  8.32.010 – Dogs – Running at Large Prohibited

No person owning or having charge, care, custody or control of any dog shall cause, permit or allow the same to be or to run at large upon any highway, street, lane, alley, court, or other public place, or  upon any private or premises other than those of the person owning or having charge, care, custody or control of such dog in the City, unless such dog be restrained by a substantial chain or leash not exceeding six feet in length and is in the charge, care, custody, or control of a competent person. (Ord. 91-29, 3/13/91)

In addition to the leash law, please follow these simple rules
while visiting the City’s park system:

  • Please respect other park visitors: do not let your dog chase or jump up on others.
  • Please do not allow your dog to be aggressive with biting, fighting, or excessive barking.  You are personally liable for any damage or injury your pet(s) inflicts.
  • Please be legal:  Always have the dog’s licenses on your dog or in your possession.
  • Please be healthy:  Your dog's rabies vaccination must be current.
  • Please stay with your dog at all times.
  • Please clean up after your dog and dispose of waste in the trash cans located in the park.  Doggie walk bags are provided in the parks especially for you.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN FOLLOWING THESE SIMPLE RULES.
