POSITIONS
Lifeguard III Under general supervision
assists in the implementation and instruction of special
classes, projects, and/or teams at City aquatics facilities.
The Special Instructor has all the duties of, and should
possess all knowledge and ability related to the Lifeguard
II position. Lifeguard II Under general supervision,
performs responsible lifeguard assignments, conducts City
programs, and assists in pool maintenance. Lifeguard I Under general supervision,
performs responsible lifeguard assignments, and assists
in pool maintenance. 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AT TIME OF HIRE NOTE: Required certificates will be
received upon successful completion of Summer Recruitment
Training in April. Lifeguard III All required certificates*, instructor
rating in Water Safety**. (May also require instructor
rating in First Aid and CPR, Adaptive Aquatics, and/or
experience in area applying for.) Lifeguard II All required certificates*, instructor rating
in Water Safety**. Lifeguard I All required certificates*, 16 years of age. * Required certificates are: American Red Cross Lifeguard
Training, First Aid and CPR, and CPR for the Professional
Rescuer. ** Water Safety Instructor is not included in Summer
Recruitment Training, please call the aquatic office at
(661) 250-3766 for information. APPLICATION PROCESS
PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT TEST
Physical assessment testing will
be held at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, please refer to Seasons brochure for dates.
Applicants will only be required to attend one date. Please bring
a picture ID verifying birth date. NO ALTERNATE TESTING
DATES WILL BE SCHEDULED. The required skills are as follows:
10-lb. Brick tread for 60 seconds, and 400 yard swim under
7 1/2 minutes. All skills are pass/fail. After passing the swim test, all applicants must be prepared
to complete and submit the following forms: City of Santa
Clarita Employment Application , Aquatics Section Application,
and Aquatics Section Supplemental Application (if required).
Please bring driver’s license and/or social security
number. Additional employment, education, and reference
information may be required to fill out one or more of
these forms. After completing all forms, applicants
will be assigned an interview time that same day.
INTERVIEW Interviews will be held on the
day of your swim test, at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.
Interviews will determine eligibility for Summer Recruitment
Training in April. DUE TO THE VOLUME OF APPLICANTS,
INTERVIEW DATES AND TIMES CANNOT BE CHANGED. SUMMER RECRUITMENT TRAINING
All applicants achieving a qualifying
interview score will be invited to the Summer Recruitment
Training (SRT) class. Invitations will be sent out in March. Summer Recruitment Training for
the summer season will be conducted on April (dates and times
to be announced) at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.
Training will consist of American Red Cross Lifeguard
Training, Community CPR and First Aid courses, as well
as City of Santa Clarita Aquatics Section policies and
physical conditioning sessions. Current possession of these
certificates does not replace the requirement of attending
Summer Recruitment Training. Those successfully completing
(SRT) will be placed on a hiring list. All hiring of new
staff will be done from this list. ATTENDANCE AT SUMMER RECRUITMENT TRAINING IS
HIGHLY ADVISED. FAILURE TO ATTEND MAY RESULT IN THE DISQUALIFICATION
OF THE APPLICANT. DIRECTIONS TO THE SANTA
CLARITA AQUATIC CENTER From the I-5 Freeway, exit right
on Valencia Blvd. Valencia turns into Soledad Cyn, continue
on Soledad Cyn to Ruether Ave. and turn right. Go to Centre
Pointe and turn right. The Aquatic Center is located immediately
