Santa Clarita Junior Guard (SCJG) Enjoy a fun and exciting training program designed to
teach water safety, CPR and basic first aid skills. Activities
include swimming workouts, lifeguard shadowing, kayaking,
snorkeling, preventative lifeguarding and competition.
Physical fitness and development are balanced with self-esteem
and camaraderie. This program provides an excellent opportunity
for students to learn the duties and responsibilities of
a lifeguard.
The Summer Junior Lifeguard Program is typically
offered 3-hours per day, Monday through Friday for two,
4-week sessions. Both morning and evening sessions are
offered to participants at various locations – the
Sports Complex Aquatic Center and at least one other City
Aquatic facility. Summer Pool Schedules will be available in
the Seasons Brochure.

| TRYOUTS
Successful completion of a swim test is
required to enroll and on-site registration
will be on a space-available basis.
Participation is for ages 8 to 15, and students
must be at least 8 years old by July 1 of the current year.

Participants have the opportunity to earn
the following certificates after attending
and successfully completing each of the
courses:
Adult, Infant/Child CPR
First Aid
Guard Start (Level 1)

| CASTAIC LAKE TRIP
During our summer program, participants are
invited to join the Castaic Lake program for
a day of fun in the sun. A great opportunity
for our Jr. Guards to learn skills that are
necessary when in open water. Games and
competition are an integral part of the day.
Parents and siblings are welcome to attend and observe during this activity.

KAYAKING AT THE AQUATIC CENTER
During the summer, all participants have
the opportunity to learn kayaking at the Aquatic Center with their class. Students
learn how to board, maneuver, and be safe
while using a kayak. One and two person kayaks are available for students. Lifejackets
are provided.

| SNORKELING
This is our newest addition to the program.
Students will learn how to fit and clear their
mask and clear their snorkel after submerging.
Masks, snorkels, and fins will be provided.

NEW Spring Junior Lifeguard Program
This spring Junior Guard program gives
students the opportunity to a sneak peek
into the summer program. Classes will meet
a few times a week during the months of
April and May. The program is designed to
include fitness and first aid training, similar
to our summer program.
Participation in this program does not guarantee enrollment
in the summer program.
