City To Break Ground On Final Phase Of Cross Town Road
Groundbreaking Event to Commence with Local Officials

Mayor Frank Ferry and the Santa Clarita City Council will host a special groundbreaking event on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 3 p.m. for the last phase of the Cross Valley Connector, an eight-and-a-half-mile roadway that will link Interstate 5 with State Route 14 through the City.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include representatives from agencies that are helping to fund the road project including Newhall Land, Caltrans, METRO, L.A. County, and Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon’s office. The event will be held at the intersection of Valley Center Drive and Golden Valley Road.

The last phase of the roadway involves construction of two bridges, north and south bound. They are each 1100 feet long and will span the entire Santa Clara River. The bridges will provide for six lanes of roadway.

“One of the reasons I wanted to be on the City Council was to improve traffic in our Valley. The completion of this $245 million road project will go a long way towards that goal,” commented Mayor Frank Ferry.

The last phase of the roadway project will be completed in 14 months. For more information, or to reserve a space at the groundbreaking event, call the City of Santa Clarita at 661-255-4939.
