The Building and Safety Division is responsible for enforcing all state and local construction regulations through the City's permitting process to ensure the public's safety and well-being in private structures and buildings.

  • NOTICE: New Building & Safety Fees become effective January 1, 2010
  • NOTICE: New State Energy Codes become effective Jan 1, 2010
  • NOTICE: New Special Inspection Certification Program Effective January 1, 2010, all new and current special inspectors who wish to perform special inspections in the City of Santa Clarita are required to certify under the City's mandatory certification program for special inspectors. The certification program is intended to ensure special inspectors meet the certification and special inspection requirements of the current California Building Code. Applications for certification will be processed beginning November 5, 2009, and special inspectors must apply in person at the Building and Safety counter during normal business hours. Please bring current certifications, a valid ID, and the completed application packet along with a $23.00 ($75.00 beginning January 1, 2010) certification processing fee.   • NOTICE: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which came into effect on January 26, 1992, is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday activities. All businesses, even those that do not serve the public, must comply with these federal ADA Standards regardless of whether the building is/is not being remodeled, renovated, or altered. New buildings and existing buildings that are being remodeled, renovated, or altered must also comply with the state accessibility requirements in addition to the federal ADA Standards. The City of Santa Clarita only enforces the state accessibility requirements. The federal ADA Standards are enforced by the Department of Justice.
