After a damaging earthquake, heavy rains, fire
or other incidents, you may be advised to evacuate you home and
seek shelter. Your first choice should be a friend or relative's
house in a safe area. The City of Santa Clarita will open short-term
shelters when conditions warrant. The City's shelters are run
in cooperation with the American Red Cross. These shelters will
provide temporary protection.
Do not go to a shelter until it is open.
Listen for local radio and television announcements on shelter
openings and times. There are designated shelter locations throughout
the City. Announcements will indicate which shelters will open,
and when the will open. The situation and conditions determine
the location and number of shelters to be open at that time.
Staying at a shelter has it inconveniences, and
everyone needs to be prepared to cooperate and work together through
the difficult time. Here are some things to consider when going
to a shelter:

- Bedding
- Bottled water/additional food
- Toiletries
- Medications
- Change of clothing
- Identification
- You may also bring books, games and activities
to pass the time.
- Smoking, alcohol or weapons are not permitted
shelters.
- Pet are not allowed in shelters
