City of Santa Clarita Council

It is truly an honor to continue the tradition of a responsive, professional local government, working for the benefit of our residents. Over the last quarter century, the City of Santa Clarita has certainly made its imprint on the region and in the state. Transitioning from a sleepy, bedroom community into Los Angeles’ fourth largest city, Santa Clarita offers residents a safe, healthy community in which to live, work and play.

Oak Tree Ordinance When Santa Clarita incorporated in 1987, it was amidst a housing boom that was transforming the area, and not always for the better. Rampant growth, inadequate infrastructure and tax dollars leaving the area became the battle cry for local home rule. The early cityhood pioneers worked hard over many years to create the area’s first City and we are so very glad they did.

Over the last 25 years, it is evident that cityhood has helped transform Santa Clarita. 100% of locally-generated tax dollars are spent right here in our community, helping to build new parks, trails, new roads, bridges, sidewalks, street improvements, transportation amenities, neighborhood safety, high quality recreation, and so much more. Our City is an active participant and an advocate for an unparalleled lifestyle that includes top notch schools, a wide variety of shopping and dining, wide open spaces and healthy living.

On a regular basis, each of us is stopped in the grocery store, at a local park or at a community event by residents, telling us about “their Santa Clarita.” For many, it is the 60 miles of off street trails, the Sports Complex, Aquatic Center, Skatepark, the local parks, or sports programs that they love. For others, it’s the feeling of community safety (this year we have the lowest crime rate in the history of the City). Still others talk about the annual marathon, cowboy festival or earth/arbor day that brings our community together for a special celebration. What they all have in common is that they love our City and we couldn’t agree more.

We want to thank you for your interest and participation in our City. We hope that you enjoy living and working here as much as we do.
