In the few months since the Extreme Neighborhood Makeover block party, numerous residents have heard the call and have improved their properties significantly. Parkways are starting to be landscaped by residents as well as planted with trees. Front lawns are being planted where weeds, concrete and bare dirt have been. Vehicles that are unable to operate are being voluntarily removed from the properties.
The City's Urban Forestry division has conducted one of many volunteer tree plantings to assist in filling those vacant parkways. About 20 ash and camphor trees have been planted with the help of 15 neighborhood volunteers, Urban Forestry and Streets staff. In time, these trees will provide beautiful canopies for the residents in the community. The Streets Division assisted in providing repairs to 560 feet of sidewalk, 575 feet of driveway aprons, 8 potholes, 8 street identification signs, 4 stop signs, 4 painted stop letterings and limit lines. This combination of community and City efforts has already begun to show results. |
