'Heads Up! Teen Video Contest' Now Open for Santa Clarita Students

Winning Video Could Win a Share of $10,000 in Prizes

Post Date:04/03/2018 2:43 PM

For teenagers, learning to drive can be a life-changing experience, but not always in the best way. Reckless driving can lead to deadly accidents. The City of Santa Clarita’s “Heads Up! Teen Video Contest,” is asking local teens to create a 30-60 second video for their fellow teen drivers that highlights the importance of distraction-free, safe teen driving. The top three creative and engaging, teen-produced, public service announcement (PSA) videos will win a share of $10,000 in prizes for video and audio equipment. In addition, the first place video will be shown on the big screen in local movie theaters. Submissions are due by April 30, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. The contest is only open to William S. Hart Union School District Middle and High School students.

The top three selections will win B&H gift cards for the purchase of audio and visual equipment to enhance their storytelling skills. The first place winner will receive a $5,000 gift card and will have their video shown in movie theaters throughout Santa Clarita for five weeks (a $2,500 value). Second place will be awarded a $2,000 gift card and third place will receive a $500 gift card. Entries may be submitted by an individual or a team. Winners will be announced on May 18, 2018.

This contest is part of the “Heads Up” campaign, led by the City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The goal of the campaign is to combat unsafe behaviors in drivers and pedestrians.
