Ribbon Cutting Held to Celebrate Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening and Improvements

This morning, City officials held a public ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Newhall Ranch Road Widening Project. City officials, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, representatives from Caltrans and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and local cyclists, were present to ceremonially cut the ribbon.

“Today is a great day for those who regularly drive through this area…this bridge is one of the City’s most frequently used, with an average of 35,000 vehicles crossing every day!” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

The multi-million dollar, federally-funded project expanded the bridge to provide an additional traffic lane in each direction – increasing the number of lanes in each direction to four. The project also improved safety by adding a new undercrossing trail on the west bank, which allows cyclists and runners to continue along the trail without having to cross a busy street. Other additions include a raised median, new protected sidewalk and a bike path on the south side of the bridge.

“This project is just one of many in our Santa Clarita 2020 Plan that supports the great lifestyle our residents enjoy, while also providing infrastructure for our growing community,” said Mayor McLean.  The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project is part of the Building and Creating Community theme in the Santa Clarita 2020 plan.
