Cowboy Roundup SENSES Block Party is the Highlight of April Events in Old Town Newhall
Saddle up your horse, steel or otherwise, and ride into Old Town Newhall for a wide selection of FREE Thursdays@Newhall events in April. On the calendar are the ever-popular 10 by 10 Variety Show, JAM Sessions, SENSES Block Party and Note by Note music night. Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend shows, concerts and special events on Thursdays throughout the year.
The month begins April 4 at The MAIN (24266 Main Street), when 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly 10 by 10 Variety Show from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Join the students from School of Rock Santa Clarita, as they perform rock classics from Queen to Foo Fighters to Foreigner! Additional performances this month will include comedy from Samantha Hale, Eric Buss and Kazu; storytelling by Ruby Cooper; mentalism with Allen Gittelson; belly dancing by the Dunia Dancers; juggling by Ivan Pecel; and screenings of short films “All Hallows Eve” and “The Invaders.”
Get ready for the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival by learning new line dance steps at JAM Sessions on April 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Newhall Community Center! Candy Sherwin will lead a night of lessons at the community center (22421 Market Street) and show you dance step sequences that will get everyone moving together as one. After the lesson, practice your new dance steps as you listen to the sounds of The Mary White Band! JAM Sessions is hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall.
The always exciting SENSES Block Party takes over Main Street on April 18 with a Cowboy Roundup starting at 7:00 p.m. The Cowboy Roundup is the official after-party of the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival! Rediscover the spirit of the Old West with music from Whiskey Tango, mechanical bull rides, line dancing, trick roping, gourmet food trucks, street performers and drinks from El Trocadero.
The same night, The MAIN will host an artist reception for its newest exhibit, “Reality Optional: The Unhinged Wit of Phil Althouse.” The exhibit features digital work from the Los Angeles-based artist, who is fascinated by the challenge of telling a story and injecting humor and theatrical timing into a single still image. Attendees will get to explore the art work, meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. The reception will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the exhibit will be on display from April 17 to May 1.
The Note by Note music night closes out the month and will take place inside The MAIN from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 25. Note by Note is a free night of music delighting audiences with a variety of genres. Bands, duos and soloists will perform a wide range of styles, including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, blues, jazz, country, experimental, western and more! Featured performers in April include Glen Allan Britain, GRIT, Tracey Lee Nelson and Steven Kai Van Betten.
