JAM Sessions are held the second Thursday of the month from March through October

Dance to the beat, play an instrument, and experience something unexpected with JAM Sessions, fun, interactive music and dance events hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation. The evening integrates live dance instruction from professional instructors with live band performances.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a chair if you just plan on listening to the music. JAM Sessions are participatory and centered around movement and music. All JAMs are FREE, and all ages and skill levels are welcome.

JAM Sessions are a program of the Ford Theatre Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the Ford Theatres through programs that engage and enrich surrounding communities.

 

2019 Line-Up

March 14 – Celtic Dance
Gather together in fun, fellowship and laughter as you dance the céili! CnaG Gaelic League of LA’s dance division Céilí Rua (Wild Gathering) will lead you through the jig step movements of these traditional Irish social dances.

After the JAM, practice your new dance steps and stay for a free concert by The Ploughboys!


April 11 – Line Dance
Get ready for the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival by learning to Line Dance with Candy Sherwin. Candy will show you dance step sequences that will get everyone moving together as one. Dust off your boots and join in the lines!

Your new-found skills will come in handy as you listen to the sounds of The Mary White Band, whose energy and enthusiasm will make it hard to sit still.


May 9 – Cha Cha Dance
One, two, cha-cha-cha! The Cha-Cha is a happy, carefree and fun latin dance! D’Wilfri DanceArt and Entertainment located right here in Santa Clarita will teach you the one, two, three of this fun dance!

In between sessions enjoy live music from the Bobby Cuba Band!


June 13 – Ballet Folklórico
The City of Santa Clarita’s Ballet Folklórico program has a rich tradition in “Increasing Pride through Dance”.  Ballet Folklórico is literally a story through dance; it teaches teamwork, poise, and confidence. 

Instructor Maria Romero began her Ballet Folklórico career as a dancer for the Newhall Community Center. Enjoy live music as you learn this rich traditional dance.


July 11 – Hip Hop Dance
Get ready to bust a move with The GR818ers, a group that’s turned hip hop into more than a dance, as they use their moves to creatively connect communities. Santa Clarita is the latest to benefit as the group, which includes world-renowned dancers, comes to the latest JAM Session to lead you in the modern hip hop steps while you listen to the sounds spun by DJ Roxswift.


August 8 – Swing Dance
Grab your kicks and boogie the night away! Shea Hanson will break down the swing dance steps, pivots and turns so anyone can join in the fun! Singles and couples of all ages are welcome. Live music from The Big Butter Jazz Band, who is dedicated to playing New Orleans traditional jazz, which is full of beautiful melodies, infectious energy, and smooth rhythms that you can’t help but dance to.


September 12 – Salsa Dance
Learn to Salsa with D’Wilfri DanceArt and Entertainment! Join local dance instructor Ingrid Blanco, in an exciting exploration of this fun social dance. Enjoy live music along with your new moves!


October 10 – Caribbean Dance
Move your body to the island beat! Combining soca, dance hall, punta, and African dance styles, Betty Rox will lead you on a cultural journey of the islands of Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados. Live music with a high-energy, melodic blend of Roots Reggae, DanceHall, Lovers Rock, Ska, R&B and Funk that is guaranteed to inspire lots of dancing in any audience.
